Summertime With Accor

November 27, 2019

Last week I had the pleasure to kick off Aussie summer at one of my new favorite spots in Sydney: Manly Beach. I arrived at Novotel Sydney Manly Pacific very late due to a delayed flight so I unfortunately missed the northern beaches sunset but waking up to the most stunning view the next morning sure made up for it! I had the best sleep in a very spacious and quiet room overlooking the water. This hotel just has a really good energy to it, walking into the lobby you just feel like you’re automatically on holiday. Manly beach is only a 15 minute ferry ride from Circular Quay but the holiday feel in the area really makes you feel like you went way further! With uninterrupted views you’ve met by the beautiful Manly beach right outside your balcony. In addition it is beyond peaceful, no noise from the street or restaurants and bars nearby just the calming sound of waves. What more could you ask for when on a beach holiday?

Together with Manly Surf School, Sally took our little group out in the waves at Manly and they made it so easy for even the most inexperienced surfer to stand up and enjoy the perfect beginner waves. Manly really is one of the best beaches to learn to surf in Sydney! I honestly feel like I learnt more in a couple of hours in the water with the Manly Surf School team and Sally than I have in the last few years. She helped me tweak my stance and how to read the waves and I actually surprised myself. Let’s see how much I will actually remember back home at our favourite Victorian surf beaches though! I wish I lived closer to a proper beach so I could start the day like this every day, I’d come back here in a heartbeat and probably make a stop next time in Sydney for work! I’ve always loved going away to places you can surf but I’d never actually thought of going from one big city (Melbourne) to another (Sydney) for it. It’s hard to believe the city is so close by! After an extraordinary lunch at Bistro Manly and a short boat ride
you’ll find yourself smack in the middle of Darling Harbour.

After a deliciously healthy breakfast filled with fresh fruit, smoothies and coffee, Accor Hotels had organised for us to do a surf class with the legendary pro surfer and seriously cool Sally Fitzgibbons. Sally is the wellness ambassador for Novotel Australia and after meeting this ray of sunshine I could not think of a better fit. She’s an absolute go-getter and inspiration and her healthy travel tips, nutritious meals and workouts are the perfect tools to stay on track during a vacation at a Novotel location.

Both Novotel Sydney Manly Pacific and Novotel Darling Harbour has very spacious rooms which is one of my favourite things about hotels. There is nothing worse than entering a hotel and having nowhere to even open up your bag (here’s looking at you New York hotels). I had the best corner room with a separate bedroom at Darling Harbour with a fantastic view of the harbour and city. You literally cannot beat the location.

As if we hadn’t eaten our weights in delicious food at Bistro Manly, we went for dinner at Novotel Darling Harbour’s in house restaurant The Ternary. Starting with a cocktail making class on the large balcony overlooking the city. Now I am not a big cocktail person but I can’t deny the deliciousness that is the ‘Ternar-ini’. So refreshing and delicious with aperol, vodka, lemon, passionfruit, ginger and rhubarb bitters (super easy to make I will literally have a bbq at home asap just so I can serve the Ternar-ini and brag with my cocktail making skills).

After we all graduated as highly skilled bartenders (in our minds) we had dinner at The Ternary. The menu at The Ternary is built on fresh, seasonal and sustainable produce and you can really tell the difference. It was such an amazing dinner, I am coming back for the chilli linguini pasta and the tiramisu. I think the best part of the whole experience was to see Sydney in a new light. I always come for work and tend to just get stuck in the city or maybe venture out to Bondi but that is pretty much it. If I plan on having a beach or summer break I wouldn’t have thought of a big city like Sydney as a go to destination. That has 100% changed. I can’t recommend the combination of a beach Manly break at Novotel Pacific followed by dinner in the city at The Ternary enough. Don't miss out on booking the ultimate getaway this summer, check out this special offer from Accor!
